Cover of The Aging-Disability Nexus book

The Aging-Disability Nexus (UBC Press, 2020) is an interdisciplinary collection of essays edited by Katie Aubrecht, Christine Kelly, and Carla Rice. This book is the third volume in the series Disability Culture and Politics, co-edited by Christine Kelly and Michael Orsini.

Much of the artistic and activist energies and necessary disruptions to conventional understandings that appear in this book emerged from the Aging/Disability International Symposium, hosted by the School of Disability Studies at X University in Toronto in 2017. Contributors blend theories and practices of disability arts, feminist arts, and community arts in innovative and thought-provoking ways to explore how arts can refigure bodies/minds of difference. These scholarly and coalitional crossings inspire new relations to the nexus of aging and disability.

Contributors: Akwasi Boafo, Alan Santinele Martino, Alison Kafer, Amanda Grenier, Anne McGuire, Carla Rice, Christine Kelly, Colleen McGrath, Katie Aubrecht, Lucy Burke, Maggie FitzGerald, Margaret Oldfield, May Chazan, Meridith Griffin, Monique Lanoix, Nadine Changfoot, Nancy Hansen, Nathan Kerrigan, Poland Lai, Rachel Barken, Ruth Bartlett, Sally Chivers

Join us for this amazing 90-minute evening event with crip-centred performances and a virtual dance floor. This event is co-hosted by Critical Design Lab, Re•Vision Centre for Art and Social Justice, and Arts Everywhere Festival.

Remote Access is a crip nightlife event curated and designed by a shifting collective of artists and access magicians, including stewards who have come to this work through the Critical Design Lab.

Since March 2020, these Remote Access parties have brought together hundreds of disability organisers, artists, and the public to celebrate the magic of crip wisdom, the ways that disability communities have built and expanded the possibilities for access in remote configuration.

Join DJ Who Girl (Kevin Gotkin) will provide the tunes for the party and create opportunities for playful and participatory ways of producing access as a collective cultural practice.

Everyone is welcome! Access features will include ASL, captions, visual description, sound description, and access doulas.
